The Trickster

Scotch01

Sculpting this dragon sprung from my being enamored with ‘The Hobbit’ yet again, and being fully emerged in the realm of dwarves, hobbits, elves, and dragons.
This one has a little story attached to it. Scotch, as I call him, is a ‘house dragon’, basically like a feisty little pet dragon. He loves playing pranks on everybody passing him, and his most favorite place to snooze is in the oven, set to broil of course. Cozy dragons, you know?

This was sculpted in Monster Clay, which lends itself wonderfully to detailed texturing. It’s also remarkably non-sticky as far as tools and hands are concerned, so it’s a real pleasure to work with.

The finished piece is about 17″ (43cm), with a wingspan of 28″ (71 cm).
